The Ephemeral Archives

After four years of developing different Land Art interventions, arte_FIST.Foundation decided to devise an exposition by the name of Archives of The Ephemeral: Ten Artistic Interventions in Nature presenting the works of seven Puerto Rican artists, including Rafael Trelles, Dhara Rivera, Pseudo Mero, Vimarie Serrano, Manuel Rodríguez, Jaime & Javier Suárez, Quintín River Toro, and other international artists like Teresa Mulet from Venezuela, Kim Myeongbeom from Korea, and Miya Ando who is an American with Russian and Japanese origin.
The exposition was based on the photographic series of these projects, which made up Art in Nature, along with a curatorial text written by Laura Bravo, Ph.D., guided tours by arte_FIST’s coordinator, Marinelly Bello, and conferences on the topic of Land Art. There was also an essay contest on art critique were the winner won $300.00 for analyzing the exposition.
Below each photograph stood a white long table with several pictures of the process and a short explanation on the meaning behind the artwork’s concept. The room’s lights were set dim and as far as the organization of the iconic photographs, there was no chronological order, leaving a sense of liberty in the museology. Strings intertwined the concepts behind these Land Art interventions, where the topics of rethinking ones relationship with nature and how it is constantly affected were combined. Through this, arte_FIST introduced the spectators to the astonishing ephemeral transcendence of Land Art by allowing them to have their own criteria of the matter.

Ponce

On Thursday, March 7, 2013 the exposition moved to Ponce at the Escuela de Bellas Artes. Although the audience was a younger one, they were all very amazed by arte_FIST’s presentation on Land Art, so the foundation provided a commentary notebook were the students were able to express through writing how they felt about the exposition. Due to the educational activities during the exposition, the lights were only set dim during the first days. Professor of Puerto Rico’s Plastic Arts school [Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico], Rosario Romero, gave a conference on Land Art, many other teachers, throughout the time the exposition was there, gave their classes in the gallery, and on March 31, Marinelly Bello gave the students a guided tour, explaining in depth each artwork.

The Foundation

Since the very beginning of the foundation, Art in Nature has been one of the most crucial and alluring projects of all. There is so much collaboration to take in from Land Art, from its process to the ephemeral ways that require professional photo and videographers to capture all the documentations. The Sagrado and Ponce expositions were part of arte_FIST.Foundation’s most honorable achievements. Nonetheless, the accomplishments don’t conclude, as we are privileged to announce Archives of the Ephemeral the catalogue. Everything that happened during the four years of creating the ten artistic interventions, including the conference by Tonia Raquejo to the two years of expositions in Sagrado and Ponce, are included. This catalogue represents only the beginning of arte_FIST’s Art in Nature and for that, we are entirely content and satisfied to see all the hard work paying off.
