Not understanding why exactly, many young artists of the epoch abandoned art galleries as well as the traditional art spaces to work in places far from the public pollution of the great metropolises. These places included natural elements and their landscapes. For some it was a response to the artistic trend of the moment “the technological formalism of minimal art” or a reaction to Pop Art “which rejected tradition to encompass the urban culture”. To make matters even more radical, it was also seen as “part of a revolt against painting, sculpting, and the anti-formalist trend of the late sixties, which included conceptual and ‘Povera’ art”.” –San Juan, March 2009 Juan Carlos Lopez Quintero, Curator, MAPR

What is Artweek at Dorado Beach?

“Dorado Art Week is dedicated to the art of landscape, a genre called Land Art. By claiming the open spaces of nature, Land Art; also known as the art of grand scale; has overflowed its own objective. Throughout the extended concepts of beauty and subtleness from nature in its wild state, Land Artists have suggested a series of new visions. This is, of course, regarding the space of landscapes and nature. Land artists have had the unique sense of utilizing the landscapes as a canvas. “Art inside a canvas is like the bird inside a cage”.“– Lourdes I.
